Happy Publication Day to the Red Palace by Jane Hur, an acclaimed author of The Silence of Bones and The Forest of Stolen Girls!
From the Blurb:
A young palace nurse investigates a pattern of grisly murders in this romantic YA historical mystery from the author of The Silence of Bones.
Joseon (Korea), 1758. There are few options available to illegitimate daughters in the capital city, but through hard work and study, eighteen-year-old Hyeon has earned a position as a palace nurse. All she wants is to keep her head down, do a good job, and perhaps finally win her estranged father’s approval.
But Hyeon is suddenly thrust into the dark and dangerous world of court politics when someone murders eight palace nurses in a single night, and the prime suspect is Hyeon’s closest friend and mentor.
In her hunt for the truth, she encounters Eojin, a young police inspector also searching for the killer. When evidence begins to point to the Crown Prince himself, Hyeon and Eojin must work together to search the darkest corners of the palace to uncover the secrets behind the bloodshed.
June Hur was born in South Korea and raised in Canada, except for the time when she moved back to Korea and attended high school there. She studied history and literature at the University of Toronto. She began writing her debut novel after obsessing over books about Joseon Korea. When she’s not writing, she can be found wandering through nature or journaling at a coffee shop. June is the author of The Silence of Bones,The Forest of Stolen Girls, and The Red Palace, and currently lives in Toronto with her husband and daughter. junehur.wordpress.com

Tow Away Zone
When a travelling salesman finds a town that’s not on the map, he must choose between romance and a long-held promise of untold riches.
Beckman Spiers is a grey man in a grey world—and he’s happy with that.
After 12 years of routine and grind, he’s again fighting to become Number One Salesman of the Year. Legend has it, Number Ones get so rich, they never work again. With a week to go, Beckman is gaining on his nemesis, smooth-talking Tyler Quittle.
When a chance blowout on a deserted Arizona highway leaves Beckman stranded, the mysterious Saul arrives, and tows him to the strange neon-lit town of Sunrise. Here, he meets the glamorous Lolita Milan and his fortunes change.
Yet, Sunrise’s small-town charms conceal secrets, and his world becomes one of private investigators and backstabbing business deals.
What will he have to do to reach Number One? And what will he do if he wins the race?
In this comedic, stylistic, and mysterious story, meet the most unique characters and get pulled into the colourful world of Sunrise.
In this segment, Beckman begins to admit to himself that he’s attracted to the unavailable Lolita, and it shows off the spark between them. It also resonates with the quirkiness of the town’s characters, reveals that Lolita has something in common with Beckman – a touch of OCD, and ends with a sudden reverse into intrigue. Beckman’s arrival in Sunrise is not all fun and games.
Adjacent to Our Buck’s was a convenience store. The door stood propped open. He stepped inside.
There was candy. There was a news rack. There were sundries.
And a woman at the magazine stand. A woman in a swing dress, bangs, and tinted glasses.
He was about to call out but decided against over-friendliness, in case her beau was nearby, temporarily hidden by a shelving unit, and would waste no time slapping Beckman’s cheek with a gauntlet before declaring pistols at … Sunrise.
Instead, he observed the unfolding scene. History had shown that observing in Sunrise was a fruitful pastime.
Lolita thumbed down a stack of magazines and slid the fifth one out. Then she stepped to the News rack, located the required title, counted down five, and pulled out a copy.
Hmm. Some people and their routines, huh?
Gaze now lost, unfocussed in the array of wall-mounted neons, he was absorbing this, finding it an added endearment to someone he’d already taken a shine to, lost in his own world, when,
‘Beckman! You came back!’
He jolted. His eyes met her face, then her eyes (well, glasses). ‘Yeah. You know. I travel. So, I travelled away, and I travelled back. You know us travelling salesman, we love to ….’
‘Travel?’
‘And sell. Especially sell. Not at the same time, though, always a bad idea. I don’t do car-to-car transactions on the freeway—I have a rule about that. A passing biker will take your arm off soon as look at you. Whoosh, snap. Bad idea.’
‘Beckman, you’re funny.’
‘And I can do it while travelling. Look, let’s walk, and I’ll tell you a joke.’ He turned for the door. ‘Won’t sell to you though—not at the same time. I just have a rule about that. Biker will take your punchline soon as look at you.’
She cracked a smile and shook her head in amusement. ‘Forget what you came in for?’
‘Oh. No. I wondered if there was a local paper. You know, find out some about this crazy place.’
‘Crazy, huh? Well, we have this.’ She held up one of the two she’d bought. The Sunrise Beacon probably hadn’t changed typeface since the Gold Rush.
‘Right on point.’
‘Here.’ She handed it to him. ‘I only buy to support the staff. Not much goes on anyway that I don’t know about. Or anyone, probably. Guess you’re the target readership.’
‘What do I owe you?’
‘“Thank you”, I believe is customary.’
He bowed slightly. ‘Thank you.’
Tucking the paper under his arm, he gestured chivalrously to the door. They broke out into the morning sunshine. Her lenses darkened further.
Reaction glasses. But they never go clear? Surely, she has the means to replace such a faulty pair? Or is it part of the “look”?
Across the street, he noted Waistcoat Shiny Shoes checking his door handles again.
‘What gives?’ he pondered.
‘That’s Franklin. Has OCD, like off the scale. Takes him forty-five minutes to go anywhere.’ Her eyebrows raised above the rim of her glasses. ‘Some people and their routines, huh?’ she mused.
Twilight Zone music.
Physician heal thyself.
Ahead of them, a woman emerged from Our Buck’s and walked up the street. Then Beckman’s eye was drawn to the building opposite, where a guy he recognised pocketed his phone and headed off in the same direction.
Groundhog Day music.
He gently touched Lolita’s arm to draw her to a stand. ‘Did you see that?’
‘What?’ she asked, a little worried.
‘I think that guy is following that woman,’ he hissed.
She looked across the road. Instantly, her demeanour lightened. ‘Oh, yeah, the Gleesons. They do it all the time. It’s like a sex game.’
‘A what now?’
‘Beats me. But it’s harmless. Trust me.’
‘Okay. Some people and their routines, huh?’
She gave him a friendly shoulder nudge.
They carried on walking, past the coffee shop. All the while, Beckman hadn’t a clue where they were heading, and neither had enquired. They were just … walking, plain as day, natural as long-time friends.
And across the street, unseen, a man exited Taylor’s and, keeping a low profile, began to follow them.
Author Bio –
I’ve been a multi-genre author since 1991.
My favourite work to date is 2019’s Tow Away Zone, a quirky American small-town romantic black comedy. It’s been well-received by readers, with 5* reviews on Amazon.
In 2020 I published the sequel – Go Away Zone. In 2021 I’m completing the trilogy.
My sci-fi journey started with space opera “Scared Ground” being available on Kindle in 2012.
In 2018 I published my 2nd sci-fi novel – Imperfect Isolation – which embraces robotics, asteroid mining and a snowy drive in an 80-year-old Porsche 911.
The sequel, Reprisals, followed in 2019. In early 2021 I released the 3rd instalment, Trip Hazard.
I’m currently editing a reflective Western. It explores prejudice against the deaf community and the Native Americans, as a man struggles to reconnect with his lost son and come to terms with his own failings.
I’ve written a collection of offbeat humorous stories and vignettes in the style of early Woody Allen prose. The Real Jamie Oliver and Other Stories is basically a window into my nonsensical side.
I also write pantomime & stage drama scripts. I’ve had 8 works performed and reached a total audience of over 5000 to date.

Thank you to Rachel from Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me to participate in the blog tour for Hunted, the latest instalment in DC Bailey Morgan series of police procedurals by Caro Savage.
Hunted Someone is out to murder Detective Constable Bailey Morgan before she can testify in an upcoming trial.
Using her undercover skills, Bailey embarks on a dangerous mission to help the police catch this elusive killer before it’s too late.
But it won’t be easy for she’s up against a cunning and ruthless adversary who will stop at nothing to eliminate her.
A tense game of cat and mouse ensues, leading to a shocking revelation at the heart of which lies the key to Bailey’s survival.
Hunted is the third book in one of my favourite series of police procedurals and I think Caro Savage’s writing keeps getting better and better! If you haven’t read the first two books (Jailbird and Villain, both published by Boldwood Books), don’t worry, the author provided a brief summary of what exactly happened to Bailey in the past and how it still affects her daily life. Having said that, these are spoilers and, if I were you, I’d start from the beginning and enjoy this very well-written series.
Similarly to the first two books, Caro Savage opens this latest instalment with a bang- a professional killer is trying to get information out of a Senior Crown Prosecutor on the only witness in an upcoming trial. Yes, you’ve guessed it, the witness is our intrepid undercover police officer Bailey Morgan. Once, the victim is found, it is clear that Bailey’s life is in grave danger. The undercover operations department have a bold suggestion for Bailey- she is to become a bait for the fantom killer, nicknamed Rex. The hunt begins…and it isn’t immediately obvious who is hunting who or who is going to prevail in the end.
I found all aspects of the book fascinating. Bailey is a complex character, still dealing with the aftermath of her first undercover job. One thing is indisputable- Bailey has a strong moral compass and a kind and comassionate heart. Is it wrong of me to say that I found the character of Rex utterly fascinating?I don’t want to give away the twist that took me by surprise and completely changed Rex and Bailey’s deadly game of hunt and surival, both mental and physical.
The pace is absolutely fantastic in this book with its short, action-packed chapters. I found it absolutely impossible to put the book down until its gripping, nail-biting climax and epilogue. I dearly love having a peek at the last pages, but this time I wasn’t tempted at all- I knew the book is to be savoured, page by page.
I can honestly say that I’ve become a big fan of Caro Savage and can’t wait for her next book to come out. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys a well-written, fast-paced police procedural with a strong female lead.
Thank you to Rachel from rachel’s random resources, NetGalley, Boldwood Books and the author for the review copy provided in exchange for an honest opinion.
Author Bio – Caro Savage knows all about bestselling thrillers having worked as a Waterstones bookseller for 12 years in a previous life. Now taking up the challenge personally and turning to hard-hitting crime thriller writing, Jailbird was published by Boldwood in October 2019.

Writer Advice Guest Post for Reading Tonic by Jeanine Englert for Eloping with the Laird
Thank you, Reading Tonic, for hosting me today for a guest post!
As a writer, I’m often asked about what advice I would give new writers or to a younger version of myself. After having published my third book and written several others that have not been published, my top five suggestions for those people that are thinking about writing or for those new to writing are:
Finish the book; don’t keep editing the first few chapters over and over again.
Just because an agent or publisher says yes to you doesn’t mean you have to say yes to them. Pick the agent and publisher that are right for you.
Stay in your own lane. Do not worry about what other authors are doing or you will lose your purpose and your joy.
Listen to your books as you edit.
Edit from the end of the book to the beginning.
And as we dive into the first month of 2022, I also have a few suggestions on how to take your writing career seriously and how to think of yourself as the professional author that you already are:
Commit dedicated time to your writing. It doesn’t have to be every day but make a concerted effort to write regularly. For example, I don’t write every day and I don’t have a daily word count requirement for myself, but I do have a weekly wordcount goal.
Find an accountability buddy that will hold you to your *goals once you make them. If you’re like me and get really lucky your accountability buddy can also be your critique partner and help you get better with your craft.
*Make yearly and then monthly goals if you haven’t already. Then, stick to them. Well, stick to them as best you can. 😊
Be open to any opportunities that come your way. Also, join a professional writing organization or another group that will help you better understand the business of writing.
Take your writing seriously. Otherwise, how can you expect anyone else to?
Finally, allow yourself to dream big and write whatever you want. Don’t allow your fears of what other people will think of you or your words drive your books or your character’s actions. I learned this lesson hard way. I wrote six books about what I thought other people would want to read and held back on what I wanted to put in for fear of what other people would think about me and my stories.
It wasn’t until I wrote my 7th book, Lovely Digits, a book of my heart that I didn’t hold back anything that I wanted to include that I finally got an offer for publication and published my first book. So, listen to your gut, write your story, and embrace the gift of the story that has been given to you. I’m a big believer of this Hank Williams junior quote: “People don’t write music. It’s given to them.” I believe the same is true of the stories given to each of us. Cherish them and your gift.
Wishing you all health, happiness, and a wealth of words and stories in 2022!
-Jeanine Englert

Book & Author Details: Midlife Shifter Unexpected by Melle Amade (Cougar Creek Coven, #2) Publication date: January 18th 2022 Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Women’s Fiction Synopsis:
My new BFF is a witch and apparently, I’m a member of a witch’s coven. Only, I’m not a witch. Word is, I’m a wolf shifter. When I said I wanted to start over again, this wasn’t exactly what I had in mind.
Being a shifter isn’t the worst thing I could imagine. It’s taken care of all the hot flashes. My body temperature now runs constantly high. I like it. Snow? Who cares? I don’t need no stinking coat anymore.
I can smell like ten times better than even when I was pregnant, and as for my vision? Glasses are SO last year. I won’t be needing those anytime soon.
But man, what about the actual shifting? That hurts like nobody’s business. They say I’ll get used to it, but they don’t know how much it hurts, because I’m the only shifter for miles around. “They” are the coven that has accepted me and given me a new family.
The threat from the cemetery is very real and the dead aren’t sleeping quietly. Our coven is the frontline on keeping the dead in their graves and for some reason, they think because I’m a wolf I should have some superpower against the dead. But I don’t.
What I have is an amazing BFF just as powerful and middle-aged as me and I know together we can face anything. At least I think we can. We survived the first half of our lives.
How hard can the second magic half be?
______________________________________________ A hot new series celebrating midlife, friendship, and older women who crave adventure by Melle Amade. Perfect for fans of K.F. Breene, Shannon Mayer, Jana DeLeon, Darynda Jones, Robin Peterman, Elizabeth Hunter and Denise Grover Swank.
USA Today Bestselling Author. Farm Girl. Marketing Director.
Since I was eight, I have been writing stories that capture the adventures in my head and the characters strong enough and flawed enough to have them. When I look at an empty field, I see a formidable citadel. When I meet a vulnerable old man, I greet an emeritus warrior. When I walk through city streets, I feel dimensions hiding around every turn. It has been my lifelong passion to explore these worlds that reveal the pain of loneliness, the joy or self-actualization, and the hope of magic.
I grew up in a place called Potter Valley where the Milky Way is held aloft by a circle of mountains and the central business district consists of a bait store and a saloon. At 19 I moved alone to London and spent the next ten years exploring the world, even becoming an Australian citizen, before I returned to California and found a new home in Los Angeles. My world revolves around my two wee children, storytelling, and my love of travel.

Anything You Can Do
What would you do if the stars aligned to put everything right in your home?
If Roles Were Reversed …
Caroline and Noel Morton are two people who need a change. One wants to escape the rat race while the other hopes to join it!
When Noel is asked to begin working from home he’s quick to say yes. More time with his three children? How could he not? Meanwhile Caroline is considering starting a new job. How amazing would it be to hit goals and targets and have people actually thank you for a change? And when she receives an offer from the failing Eden Street box company, an organisation in chaos, she’s ready to change the world!
But is an organisation brimming with employees who are tired, disillusioned and waiting to be let go what she really needs? And can Noel work from a chaotic home with three children, an obsessed work colleague and a disillusioned mother ready to thwart his plans at every turn?
Join Caroline and Noel as we return to Riverside to see if everyday changes can guide a relationship back to solid ground or if they’ll further tear it apart!
For fans of Fiona Gibson, Christie Barlow and Tracy Bloom this is a laugh out loud comedy you won’t want to miss!
Exactly what I needed on this rainy January day- my first visit to Riverside and I’m hooked! I absolutely loved BR Maycock’s sense of humour and found myself marvelling at how relatable and funny the story was!
Caroline is a stay at home mum of three. She’d love to get a job out of the home again, but let’s face it isn’t easy to find an admin position that will allow you to reconcile endless school runs, cleaning the house (a woman’s work is never done, right?) up to her smarmy mother-in-law’s standards and regular office hours. Then by a stroke of luck her husband Noel gets an opportunity to work from home (his company needs brownie points for taking care of working parents) and well, how difficult can it be to do what his wife was doing with her day? As the old song goes ‘Anything you can do, I can do better’….Caroline gets a job with a packaging company which has been mismanaged for some time and where the staff morale is incredibly low, but our hard-working, independent, positive-thinker Caroline is desperate for any kind of work and isn’t about to get scared off by a few bumps on the road. As you can guess, the learning curve for the Morton spouses is going to be steep indeed!
I can’t begin describing how entertaining the book was! Little things that first made me smile and nod in recognition got funnier and funnier until I abandoned all restraint and started laughing out loud. The characters were both sweet and realistic- at least in my book, because the struggle of trying to reconcile work and marriage (especially when there are little children) is real, and yes, you have to keep working on your relationship years and years down the line.
I’m very glad to have discovered a new to me rom-com writer with such a wonderful sense of humour. Can’t wait to come back to Riverside and get to know its inhabitants better in BR Maycock’s next book!
Author Bio
Hi Readers, I’m Berni and I’m a rom-commer!
My start: Enid Blyton, Roald Dahl and the entire contents of our local library, then Sweet Valley High, Point Horror, Babysitters Club and The Saddle Club before drifting into adulthood where I found Jenny Colgan, Marian Keyes, Patricia Cornwall, Stephen King and John Grisham.
I am now an absolute chick lit, rom com, and thriller addict and former book blogger (you might know me from B R Maycock’s book blog).
My goal is always to give someone something they can settle down with for a bit of escapism and a laugh with small town series, ‘mom lit’ books and sparkly standalones.
Then there’s the official line…
B R Maycock (Berni to all you lovely people!) writes romantic comedies that are warm, sparkly and fun. She can be found in Co. Westmeath, Ireland with her brilliantly out there husband, Keith, their four epic little men, and four cats She has one goal and that’s simply to make readers smile and/ or laugh (a splutter rates highest;)).
