Thank you to Rachel from Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me to participate in the blog tour for Mollie Mack, private detective, a lovely middle-grade mystery by Linda Dobinson.

Mollie Mack, Private Detective
Mollie is excited!
She has been a private detective for six months, and FINALLY a BIG case has landed on her desk. If she solves it, it will make the papers and make her agency famous. She needs to give it her full attention; but she already has three cases she is working on. And when she gets an unexpected lead in her oldest case, she HAS to run with it.

My thoughts:
Mollie is such a sweet character… Not much passes unobserved by this eleven-year-old who has been studying the art and craft of being a private detective from the best: Sherlock Holmes, Poirot and Miss Marple herself!
You see straightaway how calm and attentive to smallest detail Mollie is. No wonder her business is growing. Well, she also leaves her business card to make sure potential clients know who to call if they have a puzzling situation in their lives. Mollie is juggling three cases- stolen prize roses, vanishing goldfish, and an adventurous cat who just won’t stay put. While she is making slow progress on all three of them, collecting the evidence and checking out suspects, Mollie is secretly hoping for a big case- which finally arrives!
I liked the protagonist of this brand new series. Mollie is resourceful and brave (some would say her antics are a bit far-fetched, but it’s good to know when to suspend your disbelief for any kind of reader). Her cases aren’t dark or gruesome, but they still require her to be curious, quite-witted and open-minded, especially when she begins to suspect that there might be some links between the cases. There was quite a lot going on, but the writing was clear and it was easy to follow the story.
This was a quick and fun read that I’m sure middle-graders just getting into the beautiful world of mysteries are going to appreciate. There’s still so much to discover about Mollie (who is growing up and necessarily changing as she learns more about people and the world around her) and I’m sure plenty of new cases will come up soon. Can’t wait to read the next Mollie Mack book!
Thank you to Rachel from Rachel’s Random Resources and the author for the review copy, provided in exchange for an honest opinion.
