Scaring Up a Cornish Halloween Read
So happy to be sharing with everyone at Reading Tonic about my new book Cornish Gold at Summer’s End. The fourth book in my new series, it continues the adventures of event planner Julianne Rose and her handsome Poldark-esque husband Matt.
A quick glance at its cover tells you it’s a fun, feel-good autumn read. It’s also got a bit of Halloween mischief going on, including rumors of ghosts, mysterious lights, and a supposedly haunted cottage in the village woods.
I do love a good creepy atmosphere in a story…as long as it doesn’t get too frightening. In fact, the cheesier the better when it comes to favorite tropes like haunted old mansions and hotels, or crumbling castles—usually with a quirky staff and guests who get mysteriously picked off one by. And don’t forget sinister veiled women in black popping up when you least expect them!
Blame it on my childhood love for movies like The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, Private Eyes, and Arsenic and Old Lace, but I prefer my horror on the lighter side, with a few jump scares to keep you guessing.
So if you’re like me and find yourself hiding under the covers after a truly ghoulish horror movie, fear not: Julianne’s Cornish Halloween is far more on the cozy than creepy side. Though you may get a little chill as her search leads her to some less savory parts of village life, proving that even in quiet Ceffylgwyn things aren’t perfect. But there’s plenty of humor to lighten the mood, with paranormal obsessed tourists flocking to the haunted historic walks, and the village’s answer to Ghost Hunters lending Julianne a hand in her quest for the truth.
It’s the perfect read for a night by the fire, maybe with a warm mug of cider or pumpkin spiced cookie on hand. If you think it sounds right up your street, I hope you’ll give it a glance before Halloween arrives. Books one through four are available now, with Julianne’s Christmas adventure, Walnut Mince Pies at the Frost Fete, already on pre-order.

About the book:
Cornish Gold at Summer’s End
Rumors of a ghostly presence haunt Julianne’s Cornish autumn in the series’ charming fourth installment.
What began as a bit of teenage mischief in the village quickly became stories of spooky lights and ghost sightings in the wood. Being sensible, Julianne is more worried about whether she can finish her kids’ costumes in time for the annual Halloween contest—and whether husband Matt and his eager assistants will be selected for the exclusive Brookshire Garden Design Competition. So when everyone in town begins flocking to the local ‘ghost walk’ tours Julianne assures her wide-eyed children it’s just a case of imagination run wild…until she experiences her own brush with the supernatural, that is.
Real or imagined, Julianne can’t shrug off what she saw, or even bring herself to confide in sympathetic Matt for advice. Best friend Kitty is on hand to help, despite her usual family battles, including that of her cousins’ shady new scheme to profit from the town’s ghost mania. But even Julianne’s friends can’t fully understand her need to find a solution this time, one that leads her on a quirky quest from local lore, to meetings with the village’s ragtag paranormal club, and even a creepy abandoned cottage hiding secrets in the woods.
Join Julianne for suspense, surprises, and (of course) heartfelt moments as book four in the series brings an autumn like no other to sleepy Ceffylgwyn.
