#Spell the Month in Books #May 2021

This meme was originally created by Jana from Reviews From the Stacks, but I first saw it on Carla’s blog (Carla Loves to Read).

For this challenge, use the first letter of each book title to spell the current month (skipping articles such as A or The). You can either use titles from your tbr or books that you have read/reviewed.

Jana has created a formal linkup which she posts on the second Saturday of the current month. She also has a theme for each of these lists (this month’s her prompt was Poetry), although you are absolutely free not to follow it at all.

Here is my list for May:

M The Mother Code by Carole Stivers

The year is 2049. When a deadly non-viral agent intended for biowarfare spreads out of control, scientists must scramble to ensure the survival of the human race. They turn to their last resort, a plan to place genetically engineered children inside the cocoons of large-scale robots–to be incubated, birthed, and raised by machines. But there is yet one hope of preserving the human order–an intelligence programmed into these machines that renders each unique in its own right–the Mother Code.

Kai is born in America’s desert southwest, his only companion his robot Mother, Rho-Z. Equipped with the knowledge and motivations of a human mother, Rho-Z raises Kai and teaches him how to survive. But as children like Kai come of age, their Mothers transform too–in ways that were never predicted. When government survivors decide that the Mothers must be destroyed, Kai must make a choice. Will he break the bond he shares with Rho-Z? Or will he fight to save the only parent he has ever known?

A The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E.Pearson

Who is Jenna Fox? Seventeen-year-old Jenna has been told that is her name. She has just awoken from a coma, they tell her, and she is still recovering from a terrible accident in which she was involved a year ago. But what happened before that? Jenna doesn’t remember her life. Or does she? And are the memories really hers?

Y The Year They Fell by David Kreizman

Josie, Jack, Archie, Harrison, and Dayana were inseparable as preschoolers. But that was before high school, before parties and football and getting into the right college. Now, as senior year approaches, they’re basically strangers to each other.

Until they’re pulled back together when their parents die in a plane crash. These former friends are suddenly on their own. And they’re the only people who can really understand how that feels.

To survive, the group must face the issues that drove them apart, reveal secrets they’ve kept since childhood, and discover who they’re meant to be. And in the face of public scrutiny, they’ll confront mysteries their parents left behind–betrayals that threaten to break the friendships apart again.

A new family is forged in this heartbreaking, funny, and surprising book from award-winning storyteller David Kreizman.

Have you read these books? If yes, did you like them?

What book titles woud you use to spell May?

    1. Thank you! It was and it wasn’t….I thought there was great potential that the author didn’t explain, but she explored other things I didn’t expect based on the blurb. I think a lot of people didn’t want to read it during the pandemic, too close to home, too scary…

  1. May should be an easy month with only three letters. I have not read any of these. I thought May was Your Favourite Genre. I am doing thrillers, just because I haven’t done them and I really don’t have a favourite one.

    1. Mine is a mix – I started out with science-fiction, then got stuck on Y 🙂 They all have the topic of motherhood/parenthood explored in some ways, so I thought it would be appropriate for this month. I can’t find Jana’s list of upcoming topics. What’s the topic for June?

      1. She only had up to May posted. It is at the end of her February post. I try to follow a bit, but have my own ideas as well. I have to do mine and with thrillers, I won’t have a problem finding a “Y”.
