Today is my stop on the blog tour for Tristan, the first book in a new action-packed, swoonworthy fantasy series by Jennie Lynn Roberts.
Book details:
Tristan
by Jennie Lynn Roberts
(The Hawks, #1)
Publication date: February 22nd 2021
Genres: Adult, Fantasy, Romance

Synopsis:
His redemption might be her downfall…
Tristan has nothing left to lose. His best friend’s betrayal cost him everything. Now, he’s going to take it back. All he has to do to get the Hawks reinstated to their rightful position at the palace is track down the traitor’s younger sister and turn her over for execution. But Nim’s not the girl Tristan left behind years ago; she’s a stubborn, loyal, beautiful woman, and he can’t stop himself from wanting her.
Nim fled with nothing when the king’s favorite came for her. All she has left is the conviction that her brother is innocent—and her determination to free him. She’ll do anything…even if it means convincing Tristan to help her. But the man he’s become is a far cry from the boy she fell in love with so long ago. He’s formidably stern and deeply untrusting. She’ll just have to hope he still has a heart under that battle-scarred exterior.
When love and duty collide, will Tristan follow his orders or follow his heart?
Tristan, book 1 in The Hawks series, is a sexy, steamy, adult fantasy romance full of swords, shifters (kind of), and tons of action. But fair warning: This book is intended only for readers who love slow burn romance, fast-paced adventure, soul mates and found family—and characters who curse when they fight for survival. If that’s you, happy reading.

My thoughts:
Tristan by Jennie Lynn Roberts is a fabulously imaginative fantasy story set in an original world. If you are looking for a new series, full of adventures and well-rounded, interesting characters, Tristan is a book for you!
Tristan is a Captain of Royal Guards entrusted with the protection of the King himself. At the beginning of the book a tragedy strikes and the King is assassinated with Tristan standing but a few feet away. Added to Tristan’s shame and guilt is the fact that his childhood friend, a royal guard himself, Val, appears to have betrayed the King and his fellow soldiers and got involved with the treacherous Princess Alana, who has recently joined the royal family in order to secure peace. Tristan and his faithful Hawks are demoted and exiled, while Val is captured and is awaiting execution. When Tristan is given one chance to redeem himself by tracking Val’s accomplice, he doesn’t hesitateeven if the person in question is Val’s younger sister Nim, his companion of childhood games. Nim’s flight from the new King’s vengeful Chancellor is heart-breaking. Once she find out that Val is still alive, she becomes a woman on mission: she must save her kind and loyal brother or die trying to do it.
The world created by Jennie Lynn Roberts is spellbinding. It has been such a long time since I visited afantasy world so carefully constructed. It is quite complex, but the author doesn’t fallinto the trap of an infodump. She doesn’t tell, she shows and involves her readersin the adventures of her fascinating characters. I really enjoyed getting to know the protagonists and, yes, I will always have a sweet spot for a strong, reserved male lead and an equally strong, but so feisty female protagonist. The secondary characters are equally interesting and it was so much fun getting to know the Hawks with their unique abilities and unique dispositions.
I adore slow-burn romance and friends-to-lovers trope and this one surpassed all my expectations! There was enough time and enough adventures for the characters to test their ideas of what they already believed in their hearts- that they belong together and that the trust they placed blindly in the nobility of each other’s intentions was justified.
I am really looking forward to the second part of the Hawks and cannot recommend it highly enough to all lovers of the fantasy genre.

AUTHOR BIO:
Jennie Lynn Roberts believes that every strong, kickass heroine should have control of her own story, a swoony hero to support her at every turn, and a guaranteed happily ever after. Because that doesn’t always happen in real life, she began creating her own worlds that work just the way they should. And she hasn’t looked back since.
Jennie would rather be writing than doing anything else—except for spending time with her gorgeous family, of course. But when she isn’t building vibrant new worlds, she can be found nattering with friends, baking up a storm, or strolling in the woods around her home in England.
If you want to talk books, romance, movies, reluctant heroes, or just about anything else with Jennie, feel free to contact her atwww.jennielynnroberts.com. But be prepared to settle in for a long chat if you bring up shifters, vampires, Star Wars, or The Princess Bride….

Wonderful review Toni. This sounds like a great start to this series and I do love the cover of this one. The plot sounds interesting and the characters intrigue me, I am interested in those wings.

Thank you, Calrla! I think gorgeous covers have become a must with fantasy books (even more so with YA fantasy)…and it isn’t just their wings, there’s so much more to this world. The world-building is excellent in this one.

I totally agree, if it doesn’t grab the eye in this day and age, it will not get picked up. I will have to add this one and hope I get time to read it.
